The ice wine grape of the vintage 2015 are harvested, pressed and already in fermentation. On the early morning hours of December 31st at -6.5°C and on January 4th at -8°C we successfully harvested solid frozen grapes in all four vineyards. With many friends and helping hands we were able to harvest those 2.5 hectares of Grüner Veltliner and Blaufränkisch at record speed. At the following pressing we received sugar contents of 26,5-27,5° KMW. We are very happy with those figures, as well as with the rather good yield. We expect the Ice Wine of this vintage to be a remarkable one.
With this done, we can finally finish the wine harvest 2015. It was an exceptional year in many ways. Besides white and red wines of high quality we had excellent conditions for the development of botrytis in late fall. Therefore we were able to harvest great Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese grapes. So only with Grüner Veltliner and Blaufränkisch and their thick-skinned grapes, it was feasible to produce ice wine in this year.
